Richard Somerset Mackie

Writer, historian, teacher

I have a special interest in British Columbia stories, biography, and local history. I have written five books on BC history and biography. Two of them, Trading Beyond the Mountains (1997) and Island Timber (2000) won the Lieutenant-Governor's Prize, and Island Timber was also short-listed for the Haig-Brown prize. I teach non-fiction workshops at arts and writers’ festivals and in the Writing and Publishing Program at Simon Fraser University.

This site provides some basic information about myself, my teaching, books, speaking engagements, and the extended book-signing tour for Mountain Timber.
